Acid test

Just few days after BJP government completed one year in office today for the first member of a Modi cabinet was embroiled in allegation charges. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj reportedly helped former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi who has been declared fugitive by government of India in money laundering case. As per the media report, Mrs Swaraj had written to British MP Keith Vaz to recommend travel documents for Lalit Modi, for visiting Portugal. Foreign minister clarified that she had helped Mr Modi on humanitarian ground. However, opposition parties did not buy her argument and asked for her rejection on moral ground.

Congress party unleashed an all-out offensive against Mrs Swaraj over her help to IPL scam-tainted Lalit Modi and said the role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also under a cloud of suspicion. CPI, AAP and JD(U) also condemned action of foreign minister. They termed the matter as a case of grave impropriety and said it is the duty of the Prime Minister to answer.  However government and BJP strongly came out in support of Mrs Swaraj. Virtual political storm has broken out over this issue. For now BJP and government seems to be sticking with Mrs Sawaraj, but, it will be interesting to see how long they can sustain opposition onslaught. Modi government came to power with the promise to take tough action against wrongdoers. The Sushma Swaraj incident is an acid test for him.

Gulliver Returns: New Indo-Arun panorama

Dear Editor,

Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels, published in 1726, came in an age frequently referred to as the golden age of satire; the story begins with a short preamble giving a brief outline of Gulliver’s life.  Few coarse metaphors are used in this piece of writing to describe human depravity which is best fit to contextualize our social, political and religious epoch.

In a democratic, socialist and secular country like India condemning religious practice and belief is a blasphemy and passing anti conversion bills in the parliament is vague and vain espousal. If every religious scripture theologically redress the spiritual need of man there wouldn’t be conversion. Make a better Indian by a policy of better Buddhist, Christian, Donyi-Polo, Hindu, Jain, Muslim and Sikh will be the best Make in India for India.

All political party must adopt the religious tolerance. Indian history is best evidence that Brahmanic tradition had not only destroyed the true Hindu “the sanathan practice and belief” but also led to the downfall of many kingdoms and empires. In India political leaders without knowing theological  basics of religion starts lecturing on religion and religious leaders preaches politics thus both the sides spoiling the either shore.

In his first voyage a shipwreck washed Gulliver ashore in the island country of Lilliput a tiny race, less than 6 inches tall who made him a prisoner. On assurance of good behavior and not to harm the tiny civilians he was accepted as one of them. Gulliver assists the Lilliputians to subdue their neighbors, the Blefuscudians, by stealing their fleet. In Arunachal, the VIP/VVIPs are found to be roaming freely doing corruption, breaking traffic rules in headlights and sirens escorted by IRBN personnel. The Arunachalee public is so timid that they can’t speak truth and right before the sahibs. Time had changed as in olden days people were afraid to speak false before kings and now afraid of speaking truth.

The common people after being assured of good character elects but later finds that he is a businessman in reality not a visionary person to develop and improve the socio-political, education and economy of the area. Our Aam Admi section has a tendency to favour the rich man to be the representative of the region. Public rushes to the millionaire to get free money and sell their franchise rights. In some parts of Arunachal votes are casted for breast fed infants and in some places a single men cast for everyone, yet in many areas votes are bought on bond sign.

Gulliver and his team were again blown off course by storms and his companions abandoned him in an Island where Gulliver woke up before a 72  feet (22 m) tall giant farmer.  Gulliver becomes a pet of farmer’s daughter who treats him as a curiosity and exhibits him for money. The giant in the Lilliput country is now a tiny showpiece in the country of the Giants. Our MLAs/Ministers who considers the public as Lilliput are also tiny in the national and International platforms.

Boundary issues with Assam, Nagaland, China, Chakma and Hajongs refugee problems, Visa problem, Dam issues, unemployment problem raising many extortionist orgs troubling officers and businessmen, bandh calls now and then without a solution making the state capital a showroom for bandhcalls, price raise making the poor section poorer, law and order problems a daily menu. Communalism to win over thrones, mushrooming of many forums more than the state population of 2011 census, many monitoring teams and schemes designs bearing no result and PDS scam politicised a single person rest roaming free  propagating other scams.

The fastest growth is the student organizations and these forums are the worst group who are brainwashing themselves. netagiri loiter around without a social vision is like a golden ring in the snout of a swine. A new system of streamlining the education scenario by mass transfer style is an outcome of deformed humanoid and trying to get sunbeam out of cucumber through science.

Gulliver subdued his intention of remaining at home returns to the sea as the captain of a merchantman as he is bored with his employment as a surgeon. This time new additions in the crew who abandoned him in a landing boat and comes upon a race of hideous, deformed and savage humanoid creatures to which he conceives a violent antipathy. Shortly afterwards he meets a race of horses who call themselves Houyhnhnms (which in their language means “the perfection of nature”). This nation also has so much that everybody is trying his/her best to exploit and call themselves expert like no fail education system in this modern education principles. Some youth take advantages of forum SU/SO are rocking the departments with their gangs but never raise a word in favour of the education and the student community.

Also, although Gulliver is presented as a commonplace “everyman”, lacking higher education, he possesses a remarkable natural gift for language like Arunachalees. He quickly becomes fluent in the native tongue of any strange land in which he finds himself, and many Arunachalese are quick to learn any language or dialect but neglects their own just to show that he/she is brought up in urban society.

In this novel Gulliver is big, small, wise, and ignorant, and the countries he went are complex, simple, scientific, natural, and the forms of government are worse or better than England’s. Arunachal is becoming worst every passing day and the state production would be beggars and Governor should declare the financial emergency or the GoAP deem fit retire on moral ground. Our society has people who give meteoric appearance at election eve and hibernates rest of the period yet dreaming to become an MLA. I sensed that all the sequences and characters swift describes in his satirical novel depicts things fit most to the present society and this will not be too much to end here that this era is “Gulliver Returns.”

A commendable job

Dear Editor,

This is regarding the news item “Students against drugs and alcohol” in which you reported that “AdiSU in collaboration with Namsai Police recovered and later destroyed drugs and opium in and around Jaipur in Namsai District.

Local huts used as a hub for consumption of Opium were dismantled by the AdiSU members and Police.” Great work by the AdiSU. This really this must be the motto of every student’s union-”Welfare of the Society”!

This work should have been carried out by other organizations as well. But I am indeed very sad to say that local hubs for consumption of opium can be found within 1/2 Km in the District Headquarters-Namsai.

Such hubs always encourage and attract the new generation and they easily become part of this group. Hope students will come out with numbers to dismantle all such hubs in and around Namsai Hedquaters very soon.

Yours,

Chow Lakhumang Choutang
